Spotify has introduced a new feature called Prompted Playlist, giving users more control over how playlists are created. Currently in beta and available only in New Zealand, it lets users describe what they want to hear and set rules for personalised playlists. The feature uses the listener’s Spotify history from the start and allows editing or restarting prompts.
With Prompted Playlist, users can type requests like “music from my top artists from the last five years,” and Spotify will generate a playlist using AI. They can refine it further with extra instructions such as “include deep cuts I haven’t heard yet.” Spotify will also show preset prompts on the Home page. This version supports longer, more detailed prompts than the earlier AI Playlist feature.
The playlists refresh automatically based on new listening patterns or can be set to update daily or weekly. Each song will include a short explanation of why it was recommended. Spotify says the feature will continue evolving before it expands to more countries.
