OpenAI is reportedly intensifying its work on audio-based AI technology and is developing a new advanced audio generation model. To accelerate this, the company has merged multiple teams from engineering, product, and research divisions. The new model is expected to launch in early 2026 and will power OpenAI’s upcoming audio-first AI device, which is likely to enter the market in late 2026.
The new audio model is said to feature more natural-sounding voices, improved interruption handling, and the ability to respond while a user is speaking, making conversations feel more human-like. The upcoming device is expected to be screen-less, similar to AI pins and pendants seen earlier in the market.
Reports also suggest that OpenAI is in the vendor evaluation stage, with Foxconn’s Vietnam plant being considered for manufacturing. Additionally, OpenAI is believed to be working on two more devices, including an AI-powered pen, though details remain undisclosed.
