OpenAI has upgraded its Sora app for iOS with several powerful new features, making it more creative and interactive than ever before. The San Francisco–based artificial intelligence (AI) company has introduced Character Cameos, Video Stitching, and Leaderboards to enhance the user experience.
The highlight of this update is Character Cameo — a feature that allows users to create reusable characters built from short uploaded videos and audio of pets, objects, or even drawings. This feature lets users design their own characters by naming them, assigning personality traits, and describing their behavior. Users can also choose whether their characters are public, shared only with approved users, or kept completely private. They can even specify what the characters should not say or do. However, there is a limit to the number of characters each user can create.
OpenAI also introduced the Video Stitching feature, which enables users to combine multiple short clips into one cohesive video. The stitching tool automatically adds effects like transitions to make the video appear seamless and cinematic.
Additionally, Leaderboards have been added to the app to boost community engagement. There are three categories of leaderboards — one showing the most Cameoed users, another listing the top remixed accounts, and a third highlighting the most popular characters.
In an announcement on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI also revealed that for a limited time, the invite restriction for the Sora app in the US has been lifted, allowing all users to freely sign up and explore the app’s features.
With these updates, Sora is becoming a creative playground for AI enthusiasts — blending imagination, social interaction, and storytelling like never before.
