

OpenAI cofounder and president Greg Brockman has officially taken charge of the company’s product strategy while continuing to oversee OpenAI’s infrastructure expansion. According to reports, Brockman had been handling product responsibilities on an interim basis after Fidji Simo, CEO of AGI deployment, went on medical leave. The company has now formalized the transition as part of a broader restructuring aimed at consolidating OpenAI’s growing portfolio of AI products. In an internal memo quoted by Wired, Brockman stated that OpenAI is streamlining its product efforts to strengthen both consumer and enterprise AI offerings for the “agentic future.”
The restructuring comes as OpenAI faces increasing competition from rivals such as Anthropic in AI coding tools and Google in consumer AI products. To sharpen its focus, OpenAI has reportedly scaled back several side projects, including its Sora video generator, and is concentrating on major platforms like ChatGPT, Codex, and its developer ecosystem. The company also plans to integrate ChatGPT, Codex, and its developer APIs into one core product team, with future ambitions of creating a unified desktop application. Several executive changes have also been announced, including new leadership roles for Thibault Sottiaux, Nick Turley, and Ashley Alexander, while multiple senior executives have exited the company in recent months.
