

OpenAI made a key announcement on its India expansion during the AI Impact Summit. Announcing a partnership with Tata companies, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that it will open two new offices in Bengaluru and Mumbai later this year. OpenAI, which already has an office in New Delhi, now aims to further strengthen its footprint in India. This will give further impetus to the rapidly growing AI ecosystem in India.
Altman said that this is not just about setting up offices, but also a step towards developing AI skills in the country. He praised the technical talent and AI adoption capacity of the Indian youth. Similarly, it has started educational collaboration programs with leading educational institutions. This initiative has been taken in collaboration with IIT Delhi, IIM Ahmedabad, Manipal Academy, AIIMS New Delhi and others. This program will support over 1 lakh students, faculty and staff by 2027. Its main goal is to expand the use of AI tools in research, educational activities, and organizational systems.
