New Delhi: OpenAI has announced that it will offer ChatGPT Go — a new tier with higher message limits, image generation, and file upload features — free for one year to users in India who sign up between November 4 and the end of the promotional period. The initiative coincides with OpenAI’s DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru and aims to celebrate India’s growing AI innovation and adoption. Launched in India earlier this year, ChatGPT Go was designed to provide affordable access to advanced AI tools based on user feedback. Within a month of its launch, the number of paid ChatGPT subscribers in India more than doubled. Following strong demand, OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Go to nearly 90 global markets. India is currently the second-largest market for ChatGPT and among the fastest-growing globally.
According to the company, the promotion supports the IndiaAI Mission and reflects OpenAI’s ‘India-first’ approach as the nation prepares to host the AI Impact Summit next year. Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will automatically qualify for the free 12-month extension. Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, said, “The creativity and enthusiasm from our Indian users have been truly inspiring. Ahead of DevDay Exchange, we’re making ChatGPT Go free for a year so more people across India can experience and benefit from advanced AI.”
