OpenAI has stepped into the web browsing world with the launch of ChatGPT Atlas, an advanced AI-powered browser unveiled on Tuesday. This marks the company’s third consumer product, joining ChatGPT and Sora.Exclusive to macOS for now, ChatGPT Atlas is built around the GPT-5 model, enabling users to explore the web more intelligently. It goes beyond simple browsing — Atlas features an AI assistant in a side panel that stays active across tabs, ready to answer questions, summarize pages, or analyze data in real time.Unlike traditional browsers, Atlas offers “agentic capabilities”, meaning it can act on your behalf — researching topics, comparing items, booking trips, or even purchasing products. This agent mode is currently available in preview for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business users.
The browser also introduces “browser memory,” a feature that remembers your past sessions to personalize your experience — while still giving you full control over what it retains.Visually, Atlas looks clean and minimalistic, but under the hood, it’s packed with AI intelligence and contextual awareness, making it one of the most futuristic browsers on the market.
