OpenAI has revealed that India is emerging as one of the most important markets for ChatGPT Images 2.0, the company’s latest multilingual AI image-generation model. According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Indian users have already created more than one billion visuals since the platform’s launch in April 2026. Researchers from the San Francisco-based team behind the model said earlier versions struggled with Asian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, but the upgraded system now delivers significantly improved multilingual text rendering and culturally accurate visuals.
OpenAI executives stated that Images 2.0 was trained extensively to better understand global cultures and user intent, allowing it to generate realistic Indian street scenes, regional-language posters, comics and detailed visuals with greater accuracy. The company also highlighted rising enterprise demand for AI-generated creative workflows, improved 2K image quality, enhanced text placement and advanced safety features such as invisible AI watermarks and anti-deepfake protections. OpenAI added that many viral AI image trends in India, including Y2K-style portraits and AI hair-colour previews, emerged organically from user creativity.
