OpenAI has announced the release of its GPT-5.2 AI model family, marking the second major upgrade to its fifth-generation systems. The new model offers strong performance gains, especially in productivity-focused tasks such as presentations, spreadsheets, and scheduling. OpenAI also claims GPT-5.2 outperforms Google’s Gemini 3 Pro in several benchmarks. The rollout will begin with paid ChatGPT users, while free and Edu accounts will receive it later.
According to OpenAI, GPT-5.2 brings notable improvements in long-context understanding, allowing it to track larger documents and extended conversations more reliably. The model is also better at multi-step reasoning and executing tasks like building spreadsheets, writing code, and creating presentations with fewer corrections. Other upgrades include more reliable tool-calling, improved vision capabilities for reading dashboards and diagrams, and more structured and consistent responses.
GPT-5.2 will also be available to developers via API access. The base model is priced at $1.75 per million input tokens and $14 per million output tokens, while the Pro version is much higher at $15 and $168 per million tokens. Paid ChatGPT users can continue using GPT-5.1 for three months before it is retired.
