OpenAI has launched OpenAI for Healthcare, a new suite of AI tools for hospitals, doctors, and healthcare institutions. The flagship offering, ChatGPT for Healthcare, is a custom GPT-5-based chatbot designed to assist professionals in patient care, reduce administrative burdens, and provide high-quality, evidence-based responses grounded in peer-reviewed research, clinical guidelines and public health guidance. Each response includes citations for quick source verification.
The enterprise suite also includes an OpenAI API, enabling developers to build healthcare-focused tools for tasks such as patient chart summarisation, care team coordination, and discharge workflows. The chatbot can integrate with enterprise systems like Microsoft SharePoint and offers shared templates and role-based access controls.
All patient data and protected health information comply with HIPAA standards. Early adopters include AdventHealth, Baylor Scott & White Health, Boston Children’s Hospital, Cedars-Sinai, HCA Healthcare, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health and the University of California. Companies like Abridge, Ambience and EliseAI are also leveraging the API for ambient listening, automated documentation and appointment scheduling. The launch follows OpenAI’s release of ChatGPT Health, a consumer-focused tool, highlighting the company’s push into the healthcare sector with both consumer and enterprise solutions.
