OpenAI Announces Major GPT-5.6 Sol Price Cut for Developers

OpenAI has announced a temporary reduction in the pricing of its flagship GPT-5.6 Sol model, cutting API and eligible credit rates by more than 20% for the next three months. The company said the revised pricing is available through the OpenAI API and is also being rolled out to eligible ChatGPT Work and Codex credit usage. Subscription prices for Pro, Plus and Business users remain unchanged.

Under the promotional pricing, GPT-5.6 Sol costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens for standard short-context use. OpenAI’s official model page confirms the current $4/$20 pricing and says the promotional rate is available at least through November 21, 2026. The move comes as competition intensifies across the frontier-AI market, with OpenAI continuing to focus on improving the performance and cost efficiency of its models.
