Cognizant has launched a new sovereign Physical AI Platform as a Service designed to help enterprises move autonomous systems from experimental stages into core business operations. Built on the Cognizant Intelligence Spine, the platform connects industrial sensors, Internet connected devices, factory automation systems and energy infrastructure into a unified intelligence network, enabling organizations to scale Physical AI across operations.
The company said Physical AI combines advanced technologies such as computer vision, sensing, positioning and low latency communication to enable intelligent decision making in real world environments. According to industry estimates, Physical AI applications across robotics, autonomous vehicles and humanoid systems could create a market opportunity approaching one trillion dollars by 2033.
Cognizant Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar S described the development as an “iPhone moment” for robotics and Physical AI. He stated that enterprises are entering a phase where autonomous systems are evolving from pilot projects into critical infrastructure. A recent Cognizant study found that AI exposure in transportation increased from 6% to 25%, while construction sector exposure rose from 4% to 12%, indicating rapid adoption of AI in physical work environments.
The platform is designed to serve eight major sectors, including utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, logistics, transportation, aerospace and defense, healthcare and life sciences, and consumer and retail industries. Cognizant believes the platform will help organizations build secure, governed and scalable AI ecosystems while retaining ownership and control of operational intelligence.
