Meta has announced the withdrawal of its advanced AI image generation tool, Muse Image, following widespread concerns over user privacy, image scraping, and consent. Developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, the model was the company's first media generation system and allowed users to create AI-generated images using photos from public Instagram accounts.
The feature triggered criticism because individuals' faces could potentially appear in AI-generated images without their permission. Although Meta stated that AI-created images would carry visible watermarks, users and privacy advocates continued to raise concerns about data protection and unauthorized use of personal images. Responding to the backlash, Meta confirmed on Saturday that the tool would be withdrawn.
