Google and Samsung have officially showcased their next-generation Android XR-powered smart glasses at the Google I/O 2026 event, creating massive buzz in the global tech industry. The companies are planning to launch both audio AI glasses and display-equipped smart glasses, with the first models expected to hit the market later this year. According to a recent Smart Analytics Global (SAG) report, Google could sell more than two million units globally if there are no major production or supply chain delays. Industry experts believe this could make Google the second-largest player in the AI smart glasses segment after Meta.
To strengthen its global reach, Google has partnered with premium eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster for the development of these smart glasses. Analysts say the collaboration will help attract both mass-market and premium consumers across different regions. Reports also suggest that the global AI smart glasses market could grow by 85% in 2026, crossing 15 million unit shipments worldwide. Audio AI smart glasses are expected to dominate the market due to their lightweight design, affordability, and fewer privacy concerns compared to display-based wearables.
