Buying a computer can be a significant expense for students, families and educational institutions. Reliance Jio’s JioPC service offers an alternative by providing computing capabilities through the cloud rather than requiring users to purchase a new computer. The service can be accessed using compatible existing laptops, desktops, monitors or Jio set-top boxes. Users can also connect through a web browser, and an active subscription can reportedly work with internet connections other than Jio’s.
JioPC has two subscription options. The standard plan includes 8GB RAM and 500GB of storage, priced at ₹1,000 for two months, ₹2,000 for five months and ₹4,000 for 10+2 months. JioPC Ultra comes with 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage, costing ₹1,200 for two months, ₹2,500 for five months and ₹5,000 for 10+2 months. The service features an Ubuntu-based interface, LibreOffice and web browsers, allowing users to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Browser-based services such as Microsoft 365 and tools including Adobe Express are also accessible, although certain applications may require separate subscriptions. Jio says cloud-stored files remain protected even if the connected computer or set-top box is damaged. Eligible JioHome customers may receive a ₹100 monthly voucher towards their broadband bill. Students can use the service for online learning, coding, research and design, while schools and colleges may extend the life of existing equipment. However, reliable internet access is essential, and users should assess subscription costs, device compatibility and software requirements before signing up.
