Over the past few days, Instagram users across several countries reported receiving multiple password reset emails in quick succession, causing widespread concern. Many users took to social media to share their experiences, questioning whether their account security was compromised. Cybersecurity firms also raised alerts, warning that millions of Instagram accounts could potentially face data security risks. Reports suggested that leaked data, including usernames, physical addresses, phone numbers, and email IDs, might have been put up for sale on dark web platforms, intensifying user anxiety.
However, Instagram quickly clarified the situation, assuring users that their data remains safe. The platform explained via its official X account that a minor technical glitch caused the password reset emails to be sent unintentionally. Instagram confirmed that no accounts were at risk and that all systems were secure. The company apologized for the confusion caused and stated that the technical issue has now been resolved.
