Meta Platforms has announced major updates for Instagram, Facebook, and the Edits app, introducing new Indian languages and fonts to help creators reach wider audiences. The announcement was made during the House of Instagram event in Mumbai on Friday. One of the significant upgrades is the expansion of Meta AI Translations to languages such as Bengali, Marathi and Telugu.
Meta confirmed that creators will soon be able to translate their Reels into five additional Indian languages — Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu — using Instagram’s AI-powered dubbing and lip-sync features. This update is being rolled out across both Instagram and Facebook.
The dubbing tool uses Meta AI to make translated Reels look and sound natural, while maintaining the creator’s tone and voice quality. The lip-sync function ensures that the translated audio matches the speaker’s mouth movements, making the video appear as if it was originally recorded in that language. This rollout follows Meta’s recent expansion of dubbing support to English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese.
The Instagram Edits app, designed for fast and professional video editing, is also receiving new Indian fonts. The app already offers tools such as high-quality video capture, keyframing, auto captions and advanced camera settings. With the latest update, creators can now style their text and captions using Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts in Assamese, Bengali, Hindi and Marathi. Meta confirmed that the feature will roll out to Android devices soon.
