Apple has made a significant leadership decision by appointing Indian-origin technologist Amar Subramanya as the new head of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) division. He will take over the responsibilities from John Giannandrea, who has been leading Apple’s AI efforts for several years.
In his new role, Amar Subramanya will oversee Apple’s foundation AI models, machine learning research and several next-generation AI initiatives that will shape the company’s future product lineup.
Amar brings decades of experience in the AI sector. He previously served as the Vice President of AI at Microsoft. Before that, he spent nearly 16 years at Google, where he led engineering for the Gemini Assistant, contributing to several high-impact AI innovations. His leadership has been widely recognized across the global tech industry.
Meanwhile, John Giannandrea will continue at Apple as a senior advisor until his planned retirement next year. Experts believe Amar’s appointment marks a strong step toward accelerating Apple’s AI ambitions in an increasingly competitive tech landscape.
