The Gujarat High Court has introduced a strict policy prohibiting the use of artificial intelligence in the judicial system. The directive clearly states that judges, lawyers, and court staff must not use AI technology in any official capacity. The court emphasized that human involvement and accountability are essential in delivering justice.
According to the policy, AI must not be used in crucial judicial functions such as delivering verdicts, interpreting laws, granting bail, issuing interim orders, or deciding punishments. The policy was formally released during a conference of district judiciary judges in Gujarat, reinforcing the importance of human judgment in legal proceedings.
