Google has introduced two new upgrades to its artificial intelligence features in Search, making AI Overviews and AI Mode more seamless and efficient. The company announced that these enhancements are rolling out globally across devices and interfaces, further strengthening the AI-driven search experience.
As part of the update, Gemini 3 has now become the default AI model for both AI Overviews and AI Mode. Previously, Gemini 3 powered only AI Mode, while AI Overviews relied on an older model. With both features now using the same large language model, users will experience consistent and improved response quality across summaries and conversations.
Google has also improved the transition from search results to AI Mode. Earlier, users had to go through multiple steps to move from AI Overviews or the results page into AI Mode, often seeing repetitive responses. This redundancy has now been removed to enhance usability.
With the new update, tapping “Show More” in AI Overviews opens a text box directly, allowing users to type a follow-up query. Submitting the query takes them straight to AI Mode, where the chatbot responds instantly. Google stated that while the rollout is global, it may take a few days for all users to see these changes.
