Google has introduced a new “Skills” feature in Google Chrome, powered by Gemini, to simplify how users interact with AI. Earlier this year, the company integrated Gemini into Chrome to offer advanced AI capabilities such as contextual queries, webpage analysis, and product searches. With this new update, users can now save frequently used prompts and commands, making AI interactions faster and more efficient.
The Skills feature allows users to create preset commands for common tasks. After entering a prompt in the Gemini sidebar, users can save it as a Skill and assign a custom name. Later, they can quickly access it by typing a shortcut or selecting it from a menu, eliminating the need to repeatedly type the same queries. This helps save time and improves overall productivity while using the browser.
Additionally, Google is introducing a built in library of ready-made Skills for users who prefer not to create their own. These include tasks such as analysing product ingredients, finding the best gift within a budget, comparing prices, and scanning documents for key information. Early users have also utilised Skills to create personalised workflows for tasks like health tracking, shopping, and productivity, highlighting the feature’s practical benefits.
