Apple Pay has officially become available in India, marking the arrival of Apple’s contactless payment service for Indian users. At launch, eligible Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards can be added to Apple Wallet, while support for RuPay credit cards is expected to follow. Users can make contactless payments at NFC-enabled PoS terminals by double-clicking the iPhone’s side button and authenticating with Face ID, Touch ID or a device passcode before holding the iPhone or Apple Watch near the terminal.
Apple Pay can also be used at selected online platforms and stores, with services including Blinkit, Zomato, Zepto, MakeMyTrip and ixigo, along with select Tata and Reliance Brands outlets, supporting the payment option. Eligible Axis Bank cards can be added through the Apple Wallet app by tapping the ‘+’ icon and following the on-screen instructions. For security, Apple uses a Device Account Number instead of storing the actual card number on its servers or sharing it with merchants, while each transaction is protected by a unique security code.
