Google is reportedly considering introducing advertisements in its Gemini AI app, expanding its existing ad strategy across AI-powered platforms. During a recent earnings call, Google’s Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler indicated that ads could become an important part of Gemini’s growth strategy if implemented effectively. The company has already been showing sponsored content in AI Overviews and AI Mode across multiple regions.
This move comes as competition in the AI space intensifies, especially after OpenAI began testing ads in its chatbot ChatGPT for free users. If Google proceeds with ads in Gemini, it could directly compete with OpenAI’s monetization strategy. However, the company emphasized that user experience will remain a priority, and ad formats will be designed to align with AI-generated responses.
