Drongo Aerospace has achieved another milestone in indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturing with its JK 250E fixed-wing vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone receiving type certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). According to the company’s CEO, Yashwant Bonthu, the JK 250E is the first hybrid fixed-wing, multi-rotor UAV in India to receive DGCA type certification specifically for training purposes. With this latest approval, the company’s total number of DGCA type certifications has risen to six, reflecting its progress in domestic aerospace engineering and regulatory compliance.
The JK 250E has been developed to meet the Indian defence forces’ Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) requirements. Combining the endurance advantages of a conventional fixed-wing aircraft with vertical take-off and landing capabilities, the drone can operate without a conventional runway. It can remain airborne for approximately two to three hours, making it suitable for extended surveillance and monitoring missions. The company stated that JK 250E drones have already been supplied to the Indian Army. Yashwant Bonthu described the certification as an important milestone in developing indigenous UAV solutions for defence and training, adding that the company would continue working to strengthen India’s defence and aerospace capabilities.
