WhatsApp, after launching several new features in 2025, is preparing more updates for 2026, focusing on AI integration, enhanced security, flexible storage management and smarter group communication tools. Beta versions for Android and iOS reveal that these updates aim to make daily tasks easier while giving users more control over privacy, safety and self-expression.
One of the standout features is AI-powered Imagine tools for Status updates, allowing users to edit photos directly within WhatsApp using AI-generated styles, remove objects, enhance details or even animate images. Another upcoming addition is username reservation, enabling users to claim unique usernames early, potentially reducing the need to share phone numbers and preventing conflicts when the feature goes live.
Practical tools like an advanced chat-clearing option will help users manage storage by selectively deleting messages, media or starred content. Additionally, strict account security settings bundle WhatsApp’s strongest privacy protections into a single mode and the @all mention feature will simplify group notifications while preventing overload. These features are gradually rolling out to beta users and are expected to expand widely in 2026.
