Elon Musk’s social media platform X has announced that its instant messaging app XChat will be launched on the Apple App Store on April 17. The company aims to build a super app similar to WeChat, integrating messaging, payments, and various services into a single platform. However, the release date for Android devices is yet to be confirmed.
The development of XChat began with internal testing in May 2025, followed by a public beta on iOS in March 2026. The app is expected to leverage X’s large user base of over 500 million monthly active users, making it a key component of the company’s expansion strategy in digital services.
XChat will include advanced features such as end to end encryption, voice and video calls, disappearing messages, screenshot blocking, and message recall. Built using the Rust programming language, the app also allows users to sign up without a phone number, offering enhanced privacy and security options.
