Google is reportedly working on a new wellness feature for its Gemini AI chatbot. The feature aims to show short break reminders to users who have been chatting with the AI for an extended period. The mindfulness alert was spotted in the latest beta version of the Google app.
The alert appears as a pop-up titled “Try a short break,” with a message stating, “You’ve been chatting with Gemini for a while. It can be helpful to take breaks when you’re talking to an AI assistant that isn’t human.” This is designed to remind users not to overuse the chatbot or mistake it for a human companion.
By introducing this feature, Google is addressing potential mental health risks associated with prolonged use of AI chatbots. While the feature is still in testing, it highlights Google’s focus on safer and healthier AI interactions. The global rollout date for users has not yet been confirmed.
