Apple’s latest M5 MacBook Pro is making waves in the tech world. The new 14-inch model is designed to handle on-device artificial intelligence (AI) tasks more efficiently, building on last year’s M4 MacBook Pro.At first glance, the M5 looks almost identical to the M4. Both feature the same aluminum body, dimensions, Space Gray and Silver color options, and a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with 120Hz ProMotion and 1,600 nits peak brightness. The real upgrades are under the hood. While the M4 chip has a 16-core Neural Engine, the M5 adds a neural accelerator to every GPU core, making it 3.5x faster for AI tasks. Graphics performance is 1.6x faster, and CPU performance is about 20% better.
Camera, audio, ports, and storage options mostly remain the same. Both come with a 12MP Center Stage camera, six-speaker audio system, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD in base models. The M5 now offers a 4TB storage option. Connectivity includes Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, and MagSafe charging.Battery life is unchanged, with a 72.4Wh battery offering 24 hours of video playback or 16 hours of web usage. The M5 base model is priced at ₹1,69,900, slightly lower than the M4 launch price of ₹1,99,900.In short, the M5 MacBook Pro continues the familiar design but is a substantial upgrade in processing power and AI performance. Users looking for cutting-edge AI handling will benefit, while those with M4 models may not see much difference if they’re upgrading solely for design. Apple’s focus this time is entirely on internal performance.
