Anthropic has announced significant changes to the subscription access of its premium AI model, Claude Fable 5, with the revised policy taking effect on July 20. Under the new plans, Claude Max and Team Premium subscribers will continue to access the model, but with a reduced usage limit of 50 percent. Meanwhile, Pro and Team Standard subscribers will no longer receive Fable 5 access through their subscriptions and must instead use the API on a usage-based pricing model. To ease the transition, Anthropic will provide eligible users with a one-time $100 usage credit.
The company has delayed these restrictions several times over the past few months but says the changes are aimed at managing growing demand for Claude Fable 5. Industry observers believe the revised pricing also reflects increasing infrastructure costs and intense competition in the AI market. The decision comes as rivals, including OpenAI and Chinese AI developers, continue launching more cost-effective and high-performance AI models, placing additional pricing pressure on Anthropic while the company expands its computing capacity.
