Anthropic Introduces New Features for Free Users

Anthropic has announced that several premium features of its AI chatbot are now being rolled out to free-tier users, expanding access to tools that were previously limited to paid Pro and Max plans. The move allows anyone logged into the platform to use new capabilities such as File Creation, Skills, Connectors, and Compaction, marking a significant enhancement for non-paying users.

The File Creation feature enables users to generate structured files like spreadsheets, documents, and code scripts directly within chats, exporting them in formats such as CSV, PDF, or Python files. Connectors, powered by Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol, allow the chatbot to integrate with third-party services like Google Drive, Notion, and Slack, enabling it to retrieve information and perform tasks across connected applications.

Skills introduce reusable custom instructions paired with knowledge bases, helping users guide the chatbot’s behavior without repeating prompts. Meanwhile, Compaction provides concise summaries of long conversations, allowing users to quickly regain context and continue their work. The update comes at a time when OpenAI is experimenting with advertising inside ChatGPT, highlighting intensifying competition in the AI space.
