Anthropic has expanded Claude Cowork to the web and mobile, allowing Max plan subscribers to seamlessly start tasks on a computer, monitor progress from a smartphone, and return to completed work later without keeping their laptop online. Originally introduced as a desktop application in January, Claude Cowork functions as an AI-powered autonomous assistant capable of handling general business and productivity tasks. Anthropic confirmed that the desktop version will continue to support access to local files and web browsers for more advanced workflows.
The update reflects Anthropic's broader strategy to position Claude as an intelligent workplace assistant rather than just a coding tool. The AI agent can continue running tasks in the background, request user input when necessary, and synchronise work across multiple devices. According to the company's analysis of 1.2 million Cowork sessions from over 600,000 organisations, business operations accounted for 33.4% of usage, followed by content creation at 16.4%, while software development represented only 8.7%. The findings highlight the growing adoption of AI for everyday administrative, communication, and business productivity tasks.
