Amazon has introduced a brand-new feature called Amazon Video Recaps, designed to make it easier for viewers to refresh their memory before starting a new season of a show. This AI-powered tool automatically creates a short video summary that highlights the major plot points, key characters, important moments, and notable dialogues from earlier seasons.
Currently, this feature is available in beta for select Prime Video Original shows in the United States. Until now, Amazon has only offered X-Ray Recaps, which are text-based summaries. With the new update, viewers can now watch a quick visual recap instead of reading.
When a new season of a show is released, users can watch a video recap that covers:
Main storyline
Crucial events
Character highlights
Memorable scenes
Shows like Fallout, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Upload, Bosch, and The Rig already support this feature. At the moment, it works only on living room devices such as smart TVs, but Amazon plans to expand it to more devices soon.
Amazon explains that its AI models scan previous seasons, identify the most important scenes, and pick out the “most compelling” clips. These clips are then combined with:
Voice narration
Dialogue snippets
Background music
Sound effects
All of this is stitched together into a single, easy-to-understand recap video.
This new feature makes it simple for viewers to catch up on a show—even if they watched the previous season months or years ago.
