Amazon has unveiled its first smart glasses designed specifically for delivery associates, featuring AI-powered sensing and computer vision technologies. The new glasses come with a heads-up display that provides turn-by-turn navigation, package details, and alerts for potential hazards, making deliveries safer and more efficient.Equipped with a multi-camera system, the smart glasses allow delivery workers to scan packages directly while navigating, reducing the need to constantly check smartphones or physical labels. Using Amazon’s geospatial technology, the glasses automatically activate when a delivery associate parks their vehicle, displaying all relevant delivery information in their field of view.
The glasses also help ensure accuracy by reading package barcodes and showing the number of packages, codes, and addresses on the display. A dedicated controller worn on a vest allows users to operate the glasses, swap batteries, and access an emergency button. The system even supports prescription and transitional lenses that adjust automatically to changing light conditions.Amazon says future versions will include real-time defect detection, alerting delivery workers if a package is mistakenly placed at the wrong location. The glasses may also identify hazards like pets in the yard or low-light conditions to further improve delivery safety.
