India has emerged as the latest battleground in the global Artificial Intelligence market, with leading technology companies competing aggressively through lower subscription prices and localized payment options. Anthropic has introduced rupee-based billing for its Claude AI services, eliminating the need for dollar payments and making subscriptions more convenient for Indian users. The company has priced Claude Pro at ₹2,000 per month for annual subscribers, while other plans are also available in Indian currency. The move comes as India has become Anthropic's second-largest market globally.
The competition has intensified with OpenAI, Google, and other AI firms offering attractive pricing strategies. OpenAI charges ₹399 for ChatGPT Go and ₹1,999 for ChatGPT Plus, while Google offers Gemini AI plans starting at ₹399. At the same time, API pricing for developers is also falling as companies compete to attract startups and enterprises. Industry experts say increasing enterprise demand, rising AI costs, and competition from open-source models such as DeepSeek are forcing global AI companies to reduce prices. Meanwhile, L&T Technology Services has partnered with Anthropic to integrate Claude AI into its engineering operations, aiming to automate workflows and enhance productivity.
