Experts say that alongside the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, global interest in satellite based monitoring technologies is also increasing. These systems are becoming crucial in maintaining large infrastructure such as bridges and skyscrapers by detecting minute structural changes before they turn into major risks.
The Bihar government has decided to adopt advanced satellite technology developed by Israel to continuously monitor the strength and condition of bridges across the state. The system, based on Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) and SAR technology, uses satellite radar signals to detect millimeter-level movements, stress, and structural weaknesses in infrastructure.
This technology enables round the clock remote monitoring of thousands of structures at once, reducing the need for physical inspections and lowering costs. It also helps in predictive maintenance by providing early warnings of potential damage, improving safety, extending infrastructure lifespan, and enabling better planning and disaster prevention.
