China’s Zheng Qinwen has clinched the China Open women’s singles title, ending a two-year wait for a tournament victory. In Sunday’s final, Zheng defeated Russia’s Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 to lift the trophy. She delivered an impressive performance, hitting 24 winners and four aces during the match. The victory marks an important milestone in her comeback after a challenging period on the professional circuit.
Zheng was ranked world No. 4 before suffering an elbow injury in July last year, which affected her progress and saw her ranking drop to No. 54 ahead of the tournament. She entered the China Open on a wildcard, with expectations surrounding her return to top-level competition. However, Zheng displayed the form and confidence that had previously established her among the leading players in women’s tennis, finishing the tournament with a memorable title-winning performance.
