World Badminton Championships: Delhi Venue Takes Measures to Keep Pigeons and Stray Animals Away

India is set to host the World Badminton Championships at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium from August 17 to 23, with organisers making extensive arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the tournament. Special attention is being given to preventing birds from entering the playing arena after pigeons caused interruptions during two matches at the India Open held in January. As part of the preventive measures, vents at the stadium have been sealed and the existing wooden doors have been replaced with a double-door system to minimise the chances of birds entering the venue.

Organisers are also using a non-toxic gel imported from the United States to discourage birds from entering the stadium. In addition, special devices that mimic the calls of predatory birds have been installed to keep pigeons away from the playing area. Authorities are also coordinating with the Delhi Municipal Corporation to address possible disturbances from monkeys and stray dogs around the venue. The measures are aimed at providing players and spectators with a safe and uninterrupted environment throughout the championship.
