The Indian women’s cricket team is preparing for a new chapter under captain Smriti Mandhana, who has taken over the leadership from Harmanpreet Kaur after nearly a decade. India will face Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series in Raipur, with the opening match scheduled for today. In a move aimed at encouraging women’s participation in cricket, the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association has announced free entry for women spectators for all three matches. The decision was taken following a suggestion from Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who was invited to witness the first international match being held at the venue.
The state cricket association said the initiative would encourage women fans to attend the matches and add to the excitement, particularly as Navratri celebrations are also underway. The series will feature three evening matches, all scheduled to begin at 7 PM. The second T20I is set to take place on October 18, followed by the third on October 20. With Mandhana leading the side for the series, the matches will also draw attention to India’s new leadership and the team’s performance against Zimbabwe.
