West Indies posted a mammoth 405/7 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first in the second ODI against India in Guwahati. John Campbell (101), captain Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114) smashed centuries to put the visitors in a commanding position. Jangoo and Hope added 182 runs for the third wicket, while Campbell’s 101 came off just 68 balls. Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Gurnoor Brar claimed two wickets each, while Prasidh Krishna took one.
India’s bowlers struggled to contain the West Indies batters as the visitors scored their highest ODI total against India. Kuldeep Yadav also reached the landmark of 200 ODI wickets in his 123rd match. India’s highest successful ODI chase is 360, achieved against Australia in 2013. Therefore, chasing 406 would require India to create a new record. The hosts made one change, with Aqib Nabi making his ODI debut in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy, while West Indies made four changes to their playing XI.
