With Team India set to play multiple international assignments over the coming months, the BCCI is reportedly planning to hand coaching responsibilities to VVS Laxman for the Zimbabwe tour and the upcoming Asian Games. Regular head coach Gautam Gambhir is expected to take a short break after the England ODI series, allowing Laxman to lead the support staff during this period.
VVS Laxman is likely to be assisted by batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and bowling coach Sunil Joshi. Following the Zimbabwe series, Laxman is also expected to continue as India's head coach for the Asian Games in Japan. India will have a packed schedule in September, including a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan before the Asian Games cricket tournament begins.
