VVS Laxman Reportedly in Line for Bigger BCCI Role

Former India batter VVS Laxman could be handed a wider role within the BCCI as the board considers a possible reshuffle of key positions in September. Reports suggest that Laxman, who currently heads the BCCI Centre of Excellence, is being considered for the newly discussed role of Cricket Director. If the proposal goes through, his responsibilities could extend beyond the CoE to include coordination among Team India, selectors, coaching staff and player-development programmes.

Laxman already has extensive experience within the Indian cricket system. He has overseen player development and performance programmes at the CoE and has also stepped in as an interim coach when required, including during India’s recent Zimbabwe assignment. He had previously declined the India head-coach position after Rahul Dravid’s tenure and chose to continue with the CoE, citing personal reasons.
