PV Sindhu’s return to winning ways at the Japan Open was shaped by more than just rigorous training. Her husband Venkata Datta Sai revealed that Virat Kohli’s advice played a crucial role during a challenging phase of her career. When Sindhu asked Kohli how he overcame his long wait for an international century, the cricket star said he rediscovered the joy of scoring runs instead of focusing only on results. That mindset was later applied to Sindhu’s badminton journey, helping her regain confidence and enjoyment on the court.
Following the Paris Olympics, Sindhu’s team conducted a detailed sports science analysis of her game and identified areas that needed improvement. After recovering from a toe injury through rehabilitation in Atlanta, she also lost around 3.5 kilograms, followed a disciplined diet and refined her tactical approach under the guidance of coaches and fitness experts. The improvements helped her defeat Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in straight games to win the Japan Open title, boosting her confidence ahead of the upcoming World Championships in New Delhi.
