A fresh controversy has erupted between star wrestler Vinesh Phogat and the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Vinesh arrived on Monday along with her husband to participate in the National Open Ranking Wrestling Tournament being held here, but she was reportedly denied permission to compete.
According to reports, Vinesh requested officials to verify her documents for tournament participation, but the authorities refused. The 31-year-old wrestler had earlier announced her retirement from wrestling after the Paris Olympics, but later reversed her decision and declared her return to the sport.
However, the WFI argued that, as per regulations, a wrestler making a comeback must serve a six-month notice period, which Vinesh allegedly failed to follow. The federation has reportedly issued a notice barring her from participating in competitions until June 26.Reacting strongly to the denial, Vinesh accused the federation of deliberately trying to block her comeback. “They do not want me to return to wrestling. That is why they are creating severe difficulties for me. Their strategy is to trouble me so much that I eventually give up on my own,” she alleged.
