As Chennai Super Kings gear up for a crucial IPL clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk, speculation surrounding MS Dhoni’s possible return has intensified. CSK, who have secured six wins from 12 matches, need victories in their remaining games to strengthen their playoff hopes. Fans are eagerly expecting Dhoni to return to the playing XI after staying away from competitive cricket for nearly a year. Discussions about a possible retirement announcement at Chepauk have also gained momentum among cricket followers.
However, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes Dhoni may not feature in such a high-pressure game, considering his long absence from competitive cricket and ongoing fitness concerns. Gavaskar stated that although Dhoni has been practicing, he has not played real-time matches for almost a year. Former CSK spinner Ravichandran Ashwin echoed similar views and hinted that Dhoni’s farewell could possibly happen in 2027 rather than now. Ashwin also predicted that CSK’s batting order would remain unchanged for the SRH match, with Akila Dananjaya likely to feature in the final XI.
