The real reasons behind the sudden resignation of Harendra Singh, the Chief Coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, have now come to light. According to reports, several players complained about Harendra’s outdated strategies, authoritarian approach and rigid training methods.
Harendra Singh, who took charge as Chief Coach in April 2024, stepped down from his role on Monday amid continuous criticism and declining team performance.
Players reportedly filed formal complaints with Hockey India, SAI TOPS and the Union Sports Ministry regarding his behavior and coaching style. Acting on these complaints, the Sports Ministry directed Hockey India to take immediate action.
In response, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey and Secretary Bholanath Singh visited the training camp in Bengaluru and spoke directly with the players. Since almost all athletes expressed negative feedback, Harendra’s resignation became unavoidable.
