The FIFA World Cup trophy, the most prestigious in global football, has seen a sharp rise in value over the past four years. According to the London Stock Exchange Group report, the gold value of the trophy has more than doubled since the 2022 Qatar World Cup. It is made of 6.175 kg of 18 carat gold, including 4.93 kg of pure gold.
Currently, the gold value alone is estimated at around 713,000 US dollars, nearly ₹6 crore. In 2022, it was valued at about 277,000 dollars (₹2.31 crore). When the modern design was introduced in 1974, its value was just 25,000 dollars (around ₹21 lakh).
The FIFA World Cup trophy remains the most expensive sporting trophy in terms of material value. Compared to other major sports trophies, it stands unmatched. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada with 48 teams, is already generating global excitement.
