Andhra Pradesh para swimmer Ravi Veera Venkata Bhavani Karthik Budigina is making a mark on the international stage with his impressive performances in swimming. Competing in the S13, SB13 and SM13 categories for athletes with visual impairments, he participates in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley events. His international journey gained momentum at the Asian Youth Para Games last year, where he won six medals, including gold in the 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly, along with silver in the 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle. Although he could not secure a podium finish at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, he has returned to the spotlight at the ongoing Asian Para Games in Japan, winning silver in the 100m freestyle event.
Another promising athlete from Andhra Pradesh, visually impaired runner Ravani, is also delivering encouraging results in para athletics. She competes in the T11 category and studies at Nethra Vidyalaya in Hyderabad, an institution associated with the Chinna Jeeyar Swamy trust. At last year’s Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, Ravani won three medals: gold in the 400m and bronze in the 200m and 1,500m events. She also claimed gold in the 100m race at this year’s National Para Athletics Championships. At the ongoing Asian Para Games, she secured third place in the 1,500m with a personal-best performance. The achievements of both athletes highlight their determination, hard work and growing contribution to Indian para sports.
