The debate over the jersey colour of India’s hockey teams has been settled. The Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams are expected to wear their traditional blue jerseys at the Asian Games, which begin on the 18th of this month. Hockey India had recently introduced saffron jerseys during the World Cup, prompting questions from several former players, including former India captain Viren Rasquinha. Hockey India explained that the change was made for better visibility, as blue jerseys could blend with the synthetic turf and make it harder to distinguish the players clearly.
Ahead of the Asian Games, the Indian Olympic Association sought Hockey India’s preference regarding the team jersey. Hockey India treasurer Shekhar Manoharan said the federation had recommended blue as its first choice and saffron as the second option. The clarification means India’s hockey teams are set to return to their traditional blue jerseys for the upcoming Asian Games.
