The India national cricket team is set to usher in the New Year with an exciting cricket series against the New Zealand national cricket team. The tour will feature three One-Day Internationals and five T20 matches, with the first ODI scheduled to be played in Raipur on January 11, marking the start of men’s international cricket action in the new year.
While India’s squad for the T20 format has already been announced, the ODI team is yet to be finalized. The selection committee is expected to meet online on January 3 or 4 to pick the squad for the ODI series.
There is considerable debate over whether wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be included. Pant’s recent form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he managed only one half-century in four matches has raised questions about his selection.
However, many believe it would be unfair to drop Pant without giving him a single ODI opportunity over the last 18 months. Reports also suggest that a senior member of the team management is not entirely convinced by Pant’s aggressive batting approach, preferring a more traditional style for the ODI format.
With differing opinions within the selection setup, all eyes are now on the selectors’ final call.
