The West Indies team once again entered the record books with a brilliant performance in the T20 World Cup 2026. They won a resounding 107-run victory over Zimbabwe in the Super 8 match held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Several records were recorded in this match that surprised the fans.
For Zimbabwe, the pair of Brad Evans and Nagarawa recorded a partnership of 44 runs for the last wicket. This is the highest 10th wicket partnership in the history of the T20 World Cup. Although the defeat was inevitable, the struggle of this pair gave the team a respectable end.
Brian Bennett scored 180 runs before being dismissed in the 2026 edition and became the ‘player who scored the most runs before being dismissed in the T20 World Cup’. Tom Cooper (151, 2014), Aaron Jones (141, 2024) and Rohit Sharma (124, 2007–09) are next on the list.
A total of 31 sixes were hit in this match. This is the most sixes in a single match in the history of the T20 World Cup. This surpasses the record of 30 sixes hit in the Netherlands-Ireland match in 2014.
West Indies have won all five matches played at the Wankhede Stadium in the T20 World Cup. This is also the fifth consecutive victory for West Indies – their longest winning streak in the history of the Men's T20 World Cup.
This is the second-largest win by runs for West Indies in T20 Internationals (107 runs). The first is a 134-run win (against Uganda, 2024). Interestingly, all of West Indies' top 5 biggest wins have come in World Cups.
This is Zimbabwe's biggest defeat in terms of runs in T20 Internationals, surpassing the previous record of 100-run defeats against Australia and India.
While the West Indies' victory further cemented their dominance in the Super 8s, it came as a stern warning to Zimbabwe.
